Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got) Review

by Andrew Hamilton

Better collections of the Four Tops' ABC/Dunhill sides make this brief ten-track CD obsolete, but it's still recommended for casual listeners. Most of their significant sides are here, with "One Chain Don't Make No Prison" the only glaring omission. Highlights are many: the "Love Music"/"Reach Out" medley; the heart-warming title track, and the laid-back, bluesy "We All Gotta Stick Together," led by Lawrence Payton. Hit tracks "Keeper of the Castle" and "Are You Man Enough" both scored but are under-appreciated. Both are produced to the teeth and may have been hard to perfect. Sadly, other than "Ain't No Woman," the Tops don't get many requests for these songs in concert.
