AllMusic Review by

Although David T. Walker's adherence to subtlety and simplicity were something of a liability on his mid-'70s sessions for Ode, they're qualities that serve him well in a smooth jazz context -- if anything, Ahimsa is a far more dynamic and compelling album than the genre typically yields, even if Walker's sound and sensibility haven't really changed that much over time. His earthy, focused guitar solos remain models of efficiency, forsaking all hints of flash and self-indulgence. Still, Walker never sleepwalks his way through the material, and collaborations with guests ranging from Les McCann to George Bohannon are deferential but never dull.
