Lusafrica's modern African music compilation series continues with the singer-centric African Voices Anthology, following its debut volume African Guitars Anthology. The collection digs into the label's catalog to take a lyrical tour of the continent, touching on beloved contemporary vocalists from Algeria (evocatively rhythmic gnawa singer and poetess Hasna el Becharia) and Gabon (protest singer turned musical giant Pierre Akendengué) to South Africa (sunny township harmonizers Mahotella Queens) and Cape Verde (gorgeously melancholy morna mama Cesária Évora) and destinations in between. African Voices Anthology also acknowledges the next generation with some selections featuring rising star singers, like Chad's elegant voice of societal observations, Mounira Mitchala, and Reunion Island-based Creole and chanson synthesist Nathalie Natiembé.
