The first of several Ferrante & Teicher seasonal LPs is also the duo's most entertaining, employing the "prepared piano" techniques of their earliest and most intriguing work. Their versions of holiday perennials prove surprisingly hip and fascinatingly otherworldly. While largely favoring contemporary fare including "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "The Christmas Song," Ferrante & Teicher also invigorate traditional carols like "Good King Wencelas" and "Adeste Fideles" with oddball sounds and celestial arrangements. The result is one of the definitive Christmas records of the space age pop era.
