AllMusic Review by

This 2013 three-fer contains three records Suzy Bogguss released on Liberty Records in the early '90s: Aces, Voices in the Wind, and Something Up My Sleeve. These are Bogguss' three biggest records, with Aces reaching Platinum and the other two going Gold. Much of the personnel between these records remained the same -- crucially, Jimmy Bowen produced all three -- and so they're of a piece, even if they're not necessarily all cut from the same cloth. Each is expertly produced -- precise and professional without being overly slick -- and their polished surface is ideal for Bogguss' keen, exacting vocals, but they also manage to make a number of sharp, insightful writers (Matraca Berg, Gretchen Peters, Beth Nielsen Chapman, John Hiatt, Cheryl Wheeler, Nanci Griffith, and Bogguss herself among them) seem radio-ready. At the start of the '90s, this was as good as mainstream country got -- it's tasteful, commercial, and substantial -- and it's a pleasure to have all three records rounded up in this nice set.
