AllMusic Review by

Absolutely the Best of the Eighties is a decent '80s compilation, featuring a selection of big hits and several scattered lesser items (both in terms of chart placement and enduring appeal). The packaging is more than a little slapdash, but a good deal of the music is high quality, leaning toward mainstream pop/rock with smatterings of new wave and AOR. Highlights include Toni Basil's "Mickey," Katrina & the Waves' "Walking on Sunshine," Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over," the J. Geils Band's "Centerfold," and Steve Miller's "Abracadabra." Overall, the collection is solid, if unexceptional.
