A.B.C. Manchester 1964 Review

by Alex Henderson

When the FBI went after bootleggers in the 1970s, one of the outfits that was hit the hardest was Wizardo. The illicit label had been among the 1970s' top bootleggers, but it ceased to exist after the FBI crackdown. Before the bust, Wizardo put out of its share of Beatles bootlegs, including A.B.C. Manchester 1964. The sound quality isn't very good on these British performances, which were presumably recorded live in Manchester, England in 1964. Though the Fab Four are in fine form on such favorites as "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," "All My Lovin'," "She Loves You," and "Twist and Shout," one wishes that the sound were better. But despite the disappointing sound quality, completists insisted on having a copy of A.B.C. Manchester 1964, which Wizardo released on colored vinyl. Others did well to pass.
