This is the first recording ever to set the words of Pope John Paul II to musical accompaniment. The music, principally composed by Leonardo De Amicis, is a combination of sacred choral singing, light symphonic styles and synthesized world music and pop motifs. The narrative/recitation mostly consists of texts from the liturgy, are "sampled" from The Pope's speeches given at various locations (and for many occasions, some religious, some not) from 1980 through 1997. The music sets its sights on the heavens, while the firm, consoling tones of one of this centuries great spiritual leaders urge listeners to set their sights as high. An interesting and very listenable experiment.
