Over a decade before we would see the how the burden of success weighed on them in their documentary Some Kind of Monster, a fresh-faced Metallica let a camera crew behind the scenes as they recorded and toured for their breakout self-titled album known as the "Black Album." On A Year and a Half in the Life Of...Pts. 1 & 2, fans get a look at the harrowing recording sessions that would eventually culminate in the band's most successful album, going platinum 16 times in the U.S. The documentary also follows Metallica as they head out on a world tour, including their infamous 1992 tour with co-headliners Guns N' Roses. There's a lot of footage to sift through, so this documentary is recommended for the die-hard Metallica fans out there looking to go back in time and see the moment that everything exploded for one of the most successful metal bands of all time.
