A Word from the English Jazz Review

by Scott Yanow

Ten different English bands from the late '20s into the '30s play hot dance music and jazz on this LP. Some of the arrangements are a bit stiff but there are some strong jazz moments on the rarities which feature such bands as The Rhythmic Eight, Fred Elizalde, Ambrose (a memorable version of "'Leven Thirty Saturday Night"), Billy Cotton And The Six Swingers. This LP is worth searching for by fans of obscure swing bands.
