AllMusic Review by

GHB's 2013 release A Tribute to Nick LaRocca combines three different sessions -- two recorded in late 1960, one in the summer of 1961 -- from New Orleans jazzmen, all paying tribute to Nick LaRocca, the cornetist/songwriter who was an instrumental force in New Orleans jazz. Joe Capraro, Monk Hazel, Bill Crais, and Armand Hug appear on all three sessions, with Sharkey Bonano, Pinky Vidacovich, Chink Martin, Bill Bourgeois, and Mike Lala popping up elsewhere, but no matter who is sitting in, this is spirited, swinging Dixieland music, performed with virtuosity that never calls attention to itself, as the focus remains on that big, raucous swing.
