Her voice is huskier and she's a little gray (beautiful gray hair), but the diminutive cheat-spot soul singer is still in great shape, still does back flips on stage, and is working on her umpteenth marriage, while gigging and recording throwback blues like this Jasman Records release. The session musicians are blues players and Desanto falls right into the mix, forsaking her soul/R&B sound she employed with Chess Records way back in the '60s. Two mammoth expressions of the genre are the album highlights: "Hello San Francisco" and "Blues Express," along with the Southern soul-tinged "Straighten It Out With Your Man."
