1994's strangely titled A Safe Look in Mirrors finds Denmark's Jackal in a slightly less inspired place than on their previous record, Vague Visions. Perhaps the band was rushed back to the studio, because their combination of power riffing and melody simply lacks the fire of earlier efforts. "Dream On," "Taken Away," and "When the Light is Comin' Down" are likely the best offerings on hand, and though there's nothing necessarily wrong with the remaining material, the band often seems to be going through the motions.
