AllMusic Review by

Dixieland clarinetist George Lewis is the subject of this compilation, which culls material from Lewis’s catalog. The set ranges from recordings Lewis made in his home town of New Orleans to live concert material recorded in Germany in the late 1950s. Throughout, Lewis’s spirited, melodic playing in the classic New Orleans style shines, as does the energetic chemistry of his various ensembles. “Weary Blues,” “Mama Don’t Allow,” and “Mahogany Hall Stomp” are among the many highlights on this well- compiled disc.
