Ric Segretto has a smooth, cool croon that's heard to good effect on 1996's A Place in Your Heart. As one would expect with a Philippine solo artist, the album contains passionate easy listening love songs -- a popular style of music in the country -- but there are more interesting songs as well. The opening "Hindi Na Lang" (Never Mind) is a smooth easy listening love song, and Ric Segretto injects a good dose of passion. He has a charming voice that's just a little rough around the edges, which adds to the charm. One of the more interesting numbers is the L.A. Nichols-composed "Is This Love," a roots rock type of song that benefits from intelligent, Bruce Hornsby-like piano and warm organ fills. The album's best song is the emotive "Don't Know How Long I'll Be Away," composed by local composers Bodjie Dasig and Odette Quesada. The song has a touching country flavor and the chorus is sung in a poignant minor key. The songwriting here is especially strong. A Place in Your Heart has something for everyone.
