AllMusic Review by

Arguably the largest musical titan in a land of giants, Antonio Carlos Jobim is the man most often credited with inventing boss nova, an amalgam of cool jazz and samba rhythms that became synonymous with Brazilian music all over the world. Likewise, his compositions have entered the canon of popular music standards providing fodder for scores of jazz musicians and Brazilian artists to interpret and reinterpret again and again. A MÚSICA DE TOM JOBIM features 12 of the master's beloved hits, covered by a range of his fellow countryman, including MPB-4, Os Cariocas, Nara Leão, Gal Costa, Baden Powell, and Caetano Veloso. While the focus is, clearly, on the genre he helped give birth to, this compilation also features a handful of artists whose repertoires fall decidedly outside of the realm of bossa nova, all the more reasserting Tom Jobim's continuing and far-reaching influence on Brazilian music in all its forms.
