AllMusic Review by

In Frank Sinatra: A Man & His Music, Vol. 1, the first volume of his trilogy of NBC TV specials, Sinatra revisits standards from the '40s and '50s, and ties them to mid-'60s favorites. In keeping with the triumph of his 1965 album September of My Years, this program from the same year celebrates Sinatra's past while keeping him contemporary. Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins' lush yet refined arrangements provide an apt background for Sinatra's accomplished, effortless delivery of "I've Got You Under My Skin," "Come Fly With Me," "You Make Me Feel So Young," "The Lady Is a Tramp," and "It Was a Very Good Year," among others. Though the DVD is lacking in extra features -- a biography and discography would have been nice -- and the 50-minute length leaves you wanting more, Frank Sinatra: A Man & His Music is a welcome addition to the video collection of any Sinatra fan.
