Trumpeter Freddie Hubbard plays three of his originals at this live session with his sextet. The performances are lengthy (in fact "Sky Dive" had to be divided in two due to the time limitations of the LP) if not necessarily definitive. Hubbard, coming back after a period of commercialism for Columbia, is in good (and generally fiery) form even if he has little new to say on his uptempo blues "Birdlike" and "The Intrepid Fox." Tenorman Joe Henderson, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson and the up-and-coming pianist Billy Childs are major assets to this decent effort.
