After two volumes of undisputed treasure (12 Gold Bars and 12 Gold Bars, Vol. 2), Status Quo's grip on such a trusted brand name slipped a little with this set. But only a little. It's a 14-track compilation that ranges far and wide through the catalog in search not only of a few more signature hits, but also sundry B-sides and album tracks that might appeal to the casual purchaser, if not the die-hard fan. It's not a bad effort, either. Maybe the likes of "What You're Proposing," "Whatever You Want," and "Rocking All Over the World" have been played so often that there cannot be anyone left who genuinely needs to hear them again. But "Backwater," "Softer Ride," "Let's Work Together," and more are all solid Quo classics and, though they may not have been hits in chart terms, still they play a vital part in the band's overall story.
