Human beings have long been fascinated with whales, the mighty mammals of the oceans. On this tape the voices of Orcinus Orca are blended with simple music to create a dialogue between whales and man. The sounds of the Orcas are more high-pitched and playful than the deep rumblings of the better-known humpback whales. Their dolphinesque squeaks, bird-like chirps, strange creaks, and odd banging sounds are framed, on three cuts, by simple synthesizer chords and bubbly sequencers, and, on the other three pieces, by solo Spanish guitar, panpipes, and piano. The music, written and performed by Jonas Kvarnstrom and Stefan Schramm, is designed as support for the sounds of the whales, not vice versa, with the "vocals" of Orcinus Orca very much the centerpiece of this engaging "conversation."
