The 1988 version of the Alliance Hall Dixieland Band is an OK group of New Orleans musicians, featuring the front line of trumpeter Wallace Davenport, clarinetist Orange Kellin, and trombonist Freddie Lonzo. They perform nine "good-old good ones" on this spirited if not overly memorable outing. Other than the swing standard "Marie," all of the songs are Dixieland warhorses, including "Careless Love," "Tin Roof Blues," "The Saints," and the title cut. Davenport displays good technique, although he never did develop a very original voice. The results should please Dixieland fans overall, although this CD will be a difficult one to locate and is probably not worth a very extensive search.
