Lenore Raphael, an excellent, modern mainstream pianist whose chord voicings are influenced a little by Bill Evans, performs eight superior and familiar standards on this set, plus her own "Let It Go." She engages in close interplay with bassist Hillard Greene and drummer Rudy Lawless and together they perform music that sounds both spontaneous and tight. Although none of the standards are exactly underplayed these days, Raphael's versions do the songs justice and are fairly fresh, always holding one's interest. This set is easily recommended to listeners who enjoy hearing swinging modern jazz piano.
