All the cynics in the world who are now in the mode of anti-ska because of the MTV overkill have obviously never heard The Parka Kings. Not one hint of obnoxious ska-core -except for "Casino City," which can easily be forgivennot one hint of punk rock interference; just straight forward, traditional ska from Detroit that can bring out the kid in anyone. Even if the Parka Kings live energy isn't entirely captured on 23 Skidoo, the upbeat and clear production is made up for with song like "Hip Ska," "Radio Song," "Alone," and the hidden bonus track that has the chorus of "I don't need any weed to get by, all I need to do is SKANK! to get high." Props to all the straight edge kids out there even if they don't necessarily practice what they preach.
