While the song selection on this compilation is classic in every way, and the claim on the cover is that these are the original artists of the '50s and '60s, they don't say that these are original recordings. It also states that these are remastered for stereo, which is exactly what you want to avoid on CD. Del Shannon's completely awesome heart-wrenching "Runaway" is rendered lifeless by this treatment, as is his "Hats Off to Larry." Dion sounds like some bored kid at the bowling alley rather than the tough street corner rock & roll poetry slinger he was in the Bronx, and Rosie & the Originals' "Angel Baby" was remastered for stereo -- not from source tapes but from a mono vinyl 45. Every single thing about this set screams rip-off. Don't fall for it.
