Apart from the facts that these songs are classified within the R&B genre, were released during the '80s, and were commercially successful, the selections of 20th Century Masters: The Best of '80s R&B are rather arbitrary. That's because dozens of like-themed compilations could be drawn from Universal's massive catalog. This budget-priced set ranges all over the decade and showcases numerous sounds, including Ready for the World's "Oh Sheila," Lionel Richie's "All Night Long (All Night)," Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me," the Gap Band's "You Dropped a Bomb on Me," Cameo's "Word Up," and the Jets' "Crush on You."
