1977: 20 Original Chart Hits continues British label A Time to Remember's look at the hits of the decade. The 20 songs are a wild mix of disco (Tavares' "Whodunit," KC & the Sunshine Band's "I'm Your Boogie Man"), new wave (the Tom Robinson Band's "2-4-6-8 Motorway," the Stranglers' "[Get A] Grip [On Yourself]"), album rock (Frankie Miller's "Be Good to Yourself," Deep Purple's deathless "Smoke on the Water"), glam (Suzi Quatro's "Tear Me Apart"), country (Kenny Rogers' "Lucille," Crystal Gayle's "Don't It Make Your Brown Eyes Blue"), and pop (Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat," Glen Campbell's "Southern Nights"). The mix works well as both a document of the year and as a listening experience. It wins extra points for including the Saints' wonderful "This Perfect Day," a track that almost never shows up on collections like these.
