AllMusic Review by

1974: 20 Original Chart Hits continues British label A Time To Remember's look at the hits of the decade. The tracks featured are a strange mix of novelty, pop, and hard rock tracks that give a very good, if narrow, feel for the times. This edition spotlights the booming glitter and glam sounds that were sweeping the U.K. with great songs from Suzi Quatro ("Devil Gate Drive"), Kenny ("The Bump"), Hello ("Tell Him") and Mud ("Tiger Feet"). The rest of the collection ranges from the sublime (Hot Chocolate's "Emma," George McRae's "Rock Your Baby," Andy Kim's "Rock Me Gently") to the ridiculous (Paul Anka's "(You're) Havin' My Baby," Brian Protheroe's "Pinball") to the obscure. In all, this is a decent collection that almost works and will certainly bring back memories for devotees of English pop music of the '70s.
