AllMusic Review by

1948-50 collects most of tenor saxophonist/vocalist Jimmy Preston's major recordings. One of the rawest and rockin'est of the early R&B bandleaders, Preston scored a few hits -- included here -- such as the swinging "Rock the Joint" and "Hucklebuck Daddy." While the sound quality is rough, the stellar song selection and rarity of these recordings makes this the best single-disc collection of Preston's influential sound.
