There are dozens upon dozens of CDs spotlighting songs from Frank Sinatra's 1940s radio shows on the market, but most of them cherry pick songs rather than include the entire episodes. This CD collects two complete radio programs and then tacks on six additional selections, all of which showcase Sinatra's vocal talents and charisma to excellent effect. The first radio show, recorded just after New Year's Eve, is a real charmer and features the young Peggy Lee as a special guest and duet partner. The vocalist's image during most of the 1940s was much different than the "swinging" one that remains popular to this day, and it's amusing to hear a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Sinatra do comedy routines based around how clueless and upright he is. The music is great, and both shows feature a good mix of lush romantic ballads and '40s swing.
