AllMusic Review by

Another fine Classics collection of prime Lester Young sides. This time around, the mix takes in mid-'40s sides Young cut for Savoy and Aladdin. On the Savoy end, the disc features three cuts with the full Basie band sans the Count ("Tush") and a handful of tracks backed by Basie and his rhythm section ("Ghost of a Chance"). Even more impressive, though, are the several Aladdin numbers that close out the program, all of which come from two Los Angeles combo sessions which featured the likes of Dodo Marmarosa, Howard McGhee, Vic Dickenson, Curtis Counce, and Johnny Otis. A top roundup of some of Young's best material.
