AllMusic Review by

Other than seven selections, the edition of Lucky Millinder's Orchestra heard on this collector's LP did not have an opportunity to record. At the time, trumpeter Joe Guy (who was influenced by the early Dizzy Gillespie), altoist Tab Smith, and tenor saxophonist Sam "The Man" Taylor were the key soloists although the colorful singer/guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe (who is featured on "Rock Me," "Down By The Riverside" and "I Want a Tall Skinny Papa") was the band's main attraction. These 13 swinging performances also include enjoyable versions of "Little John Special," "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby," "St. Louis Breakdown" and "Cherokee" (a showcase for Taylor) among its more memorable selections. Recommended, if it can be found.
