This collection of vibraphone innovator Lionel Hampton spans a very progressive period of his career. With representative selections that document Hampton's rise to fame as a soloist and a bandleader, 1929-1949 documents some of the most important sessions of Hampton's early musical life. As one of the first pioneers of the jazz vibraphone, Hampton's dedication to up-tempo, lighthearted swing solidified the vibraphone's role in swing and big-band jazz, and 1929-1949 includes collaborations with such legends as Nat "King" Cole, Louis Armstrong, and Dizzy Gillespie.
