This collector's LP unfortunately does not always list accurate personnel. Clarinetist Johnny Dodds is not present on the six selections by Lovie Austin's Blues Serenaders on side two (his soundalike Jimmy O'Bryant is actually featured), and xylophonist Jimmy Bertrand and trombonist Kid Ory are left out of the listings. There is only one instrumental on the set (the Dixieland Thumpers' "Weary Way Blues"), and while Blind Blake's "Hot Potatoes" is a good-humored piece with some strong Dodds, the album otherwise showcases the early blues singers Viola Bartlette, Ida Cox and Elzadie Robinson. Most of the music has been reissued in more complete form on CD, making this release one of lesser interest.
