AllMusic Review by

Much like the first volume of the series, 18 New Wave Classics, Vol. 2 doesn't offer a wholly appropriate selection of new wave singles; it takes a few too many liberties with the style's end (around 1984), but it does still contain a mostly enjoyable selection of '80s material. Non-new wave from the Smiths ("Girlfriend in a Coma"), Erasure ("Chains of Love"), the B-52's ("Roam"), and INXS ("Devil Inside") rubs shoulders with actual new wave from the Human League ("[Keep Feeling] Fascination"), Devo ("Girl U Want"), and Culture Club ("I'll Tumble 4 Ya"). If you were to combine this with volume one, you'd have 36 songs that focus more on 1985 and 1986 than new wave's 1978-1983 run.
