AllMusic Review by

Released in 1973 by French CBS, this LP has 16 performances from Calloway's Orchestra that de-emphasize the participation of their vocalist/leader and put the spotlight on his star instrumentalists of the 1939-41 period. Trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie (particularly on "Bye Bye Blues" and a futuristic "Pickin' the Cabbage"), tenor-great Chu Berry (including his famous rendition of "Ghost of a Chance"), bassist Milt Hinton, drummer Cozy Cole and trumpeter Jonah Jones (on "Jonah Joins the Cab") are among the classic players featured on this long out-of-print LP.
