12" Disco: The Collection Review

by Andy Kellman

The majority of disco compilations funded by major labels cram as many three-minute edits as possible onto one disc. The style thrived in the extended 12" format -- something this three-disc set from Rhino thankfully acknowledges. Sold for roughly the cost of one full-price disc, 12" Disco: The Collection has a generic title and equally bland packaging, but it boasts a nice balance of major crossover hits and cult club favorites. It's limited to the WMG catalog, yet there's still a considerable amount of range here. Among the enduring standouts are Chic's "Le Freak," Slave's "Just a Touch of Love," Kleeer's "Keeep Your Body Workin'," Phreek's "Weekend," and Sister Sledge's "He's the Greatest Dancer."
