AllMusic Review by

This six-disc collection from Virgin Records features 101 Power Ballads (does not come with 101 lighters) culled from the 1960s through the 2000s, many of which only qualify as "power ballads" on the planet from which the compilers originate from. There are enough obvious choices here, like REO Speedwagon's "Keep on Loving You" and "We Belong" by Pat Benatar, to please staunch supporters of the genre, but the inclusion of classic "Sport Jams" like "Eye of the Tiger" (Survivor), the "Final Countdown" (Europe), and "Danger Zone"(as in "highway to the") (Kenny Loggins) renders the project a tad esoteric for purists. That said, there are enough left-field "Powallads" here, such as ELO's epic "Wild West Hero," T'Pau's "Heart & Soul," and David Bowie's "Life on Mars" to make it worth the while of the savvy audio traveler, but it's hard to picture a lovestruck couple with their hands in each other's back pockets swaying to the gentle beat of Meredith Brooks' "Bitch."
