Denon Classics released the compilation 100 Essential Classics in 2008 as part of its exclusively online Essentials series, which draws on the label's library of digital recordings going back to the 1980s. This album shines a light on some of the most familiar and popular works in the classical canon, from Bach and Vivaldi, to Debussy and Richard Strauss. A few of the talented musicians performing here are pianist Dubravka Tomsic, harpischordist Christine Jaccottet, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic with conductor Libor Pesek, and I Solisti di Zagreb. Whether it's Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5 or Johann Strauss, Jr.'s On the Beautiful, Blue Danube, or the "Bridal Chorus" from Lohengrin, any casual classical listener is bound to find more than one piece that sounds familiar.
