You Got Me Floatin'

Composed by Jimi Hendrix

Song Review by

One of the two or three great songs on Hendrix’s second album, “You Got Me Floatin’” sounds like a simple, hook-laden pop song, and that’s exactly what it’s intended to be. The lyrics are simple, and don’t draw the listener away from the essential musicality of the song, and its incredibly catchy melody and sing-a-long chorus. Indeed, “You Got Me Floatin’” is probably the purest pop song in Hendrix’s canon, and one wonders why it was never released as a single. Although there are some psychedelic touches towards the end of the song, these are kept to a minimum, and the song is given a sparse arrangement, to it’s great benefit.
