The White Boy Troubles

Composed by Frank Zappa

Song Review by

This is half a song, half a dialogue track from the 1984 pseudo-musical Thing-Fish. It begins with the Mammy Nuns singing a gospel song. The lyrics are lifted from the Crab-Grass Baby's monologue in the previous track ("The Crab-Grass Baby"). Afterwards, the background becomes Synclavier music (another bit of what would become "Amnerika" -- see "That Evil Prince") while Thing-Fish and Harry-as-a-Boy speak. The main character explains to the man-infant that his son's father is actually a mechanic. If that wasn't bad enough "de bitch [Artificial Rhonda, Harry-as-a-Boy's inflatable wife] gwine be contemplatin' a career of her own." Fiction catches up on "reality." In the next song, "No Not Now," she will have become a truck stop waitress.
