Song Review by

Tony! Toni! Toné! had never heard of Albert Hammond's 1972 Top Five pop gold single "It Never Rains in Southern California." They got the idea for the title from an oft-repeated phrase of one of their attorneys, who often said it when the group would return to California wearing heavy coats after just visiting a much wetter climate on the east coast. Timothy Christian played most of the instruments on the track and Raphael Wiggins wrote a lyric that revolved around a guy missing his girl who was in southern California. From their platinum album The Revival, the mellow "It Never Rains in Southern California" sailed to number one R&B and number 34 pop in late 1990.
