Revelator
Keeping the blues legacy moving forward, 2011 included releases from the 11-piece band fronted by husband-and-wife team Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, Texas blues-rock courtesy of Chris Duarte, a blast of swamp-blues guitar from Tab Benoit, Southern soul and rhythm & blues by Warren Haynes, and the New Orleans and Texas piano stylings of Marcia Ball. Several tribute discs surfaced in 2011, including an homage to the legendary producer and musician Jim Dickinson by the North Mississippi Allstars; Greg Allman tackled several of his favorite tracks on Low Country Blues; guitarist Rory Block paid respects to Mississippi Fred McDowell; and a full-throttled George Thorogood & the Destroyers saluted Chess Records. This list only scratches the surface of discs encompassing the enthusiasm, spirit, and diversity of the blues in 2011.
