Artist Biography

The first genuine rap group to appear on the pan-ethnic Yorkshire label Nation Records, Urban South are a quartet from Moseley, Birmingham, West Midlands, England. With the support of little more than a rough demo they had earned high-profile support slots to visiting US stars such as Ice-T and Brand Nubian, which stood MCs Mayhem, Embro, Govna G and DJ KDX (b. USA) in good shape to secure a recording contract. They were also helped by a home-made video that was featured by MTV and given steady airplay for several months before they had signed to Nation. They made their debut with the Whatever’s Clever EP, and immediately found themselves feted by specialist magazines and the UK music weeklies alike (Melody Maker awarding it Single Of The Week).
