The group's actual name was The First Modern Jazz Piano Quartet and they performed and recorded in the late '50s for Coral and Warner Bros, though it seems none of the material ever made it to album. Eddie Costa, Dick Marx, Hank Jones and Johnny Costa composed the pianists for most of the 1958 dates. Irving Joseph, Bernie Leighton, Moe Wechsler and Morris Nanton did some 1958 and the 1959 sessions, backed by bassist Milt Hinton and drummer Osie Johnson.
