Around the same time Southern rap began embodying artists like OutKast, Goodie Mob, and Eightball & MJG rather than the bass music of years prior, Soulism made their bid for success. The Macon, GA-based group united with Wall Street Records in 1996 for a self-titled album and an accompanying single ("Taste the Flava"). The releases didn't find much success nationally, as the South hadn't yet become as marketable as it would a few years later during the Dirty South boom.
