b. Raymond Barrois, 6 June 1904, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, d. 21 March 1986, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. A self-taught clarinettist, Burke played in several New Orleans bands in his teens. He recorded in 1927 but the results were not released. Throughout the 20s and 30s Burke played in bands, mostly in New Orleans. In the 40s he led his own band but also recorded with ‘ Wooden’ Joe Nicholas. Burke continued to play in New Orleans during the 50s and 60s, content to stay in his home town. He was still playing in the late 70s and early 80s, lending to several bands his discreet and elegant sound.
