The son of a Lutheran minister, Mark Kleiner decided, in 1999, he had grown tired of the music business and the Vancouver music scene. Leaving in the summer of 1999 to return to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to prepare to follow in his father's footsteps, the musician returned to Vancouver in the summer of 2000. While there, he stayed with a good friend and "dot-com" millionaire, who, after hearing his new compositions, wrote Kleiner a blank check to record an album. Along with drummer Kurt Dahle and bassist Pete Mills, the group recorded their debut album in 2001. They also signed to Mint Records, which released the group's Love to Night album in March 2002. Mark Kleiner and company have years of experience, with various members opening for such acts as Mötley Crüe and April Wine while in other bands.
