b. c. 1969, Omaha, Nebraska, USA. Although interested in singing country music from an early age, Tyler’s first job in showbusiness was as a television producer. This was at KNXV-TV, Phoenix, Arizona, where she worked on news programmes. Meanwhile, she was writing songs and after encouragement from singers Mary Chapin Carpenter and Trisha Yearwood, and Bo Goldsen of Criterion Records, she signed with Rising Tide Records, who released an EP featuring ‘I’m In Trouble Now’. She wrote most of the songs for her 1998 debut album, displaying a talent for interesting lyrics and memorable melodies, with stand-out tracks including ‘What A Woman Knows’, ‘She’s Only A Cowboy (When It Rains)’, ‘Kind Of Like California’, and ‘Keeping Your Kisses’. Tyler’s warm singing voice is admirably suited to the material she sings and she attracted attention and airplay. She has worked on her songwriting in association with Gary Burr, Tom Littlefield and Sharon Rice.
