b. USA. An open musical mind led to Day developing her singing skills in several fields starting with country music and working her way through folk and classical music before turning to jazz. She sang with moderate success in various clubs in the New York area before hearing saxophonist Marion Brown in concert. She introduced herself to him after the concert and sang for him. He was sufficiently impressed to encourage and support her bid for career success, and he also appeared on her 2003 debut, Light Of Day, as guest soloist. Day has also recorded in duo with bass player Dominic Duval.
