A fine straightahead trombonist, Deborah Weisz had her first opportunity to lead a record date in 1996 (which was released two years later) for her own Va Wah label: Breaking Up, Breaking Out. Weisz grew up in Phoenix where she began playing trombone when she was ten. She moved to Las Vegas in 1982 and became a top freelance musician, playing with many acts including, regularly, with Frank Sinatra (1987-94). After moving to New York in 1993, Weisz worked with Broadway shows, the BMI Jazz Composer's Workshop Orchestra, the Jimmy Heath big band and the all-female orchestra, Diva (with whom she has recorded). In addition, Deborah Weisz, who has strong potential, has led her own quintet.
